New Mexico 42 - New Mexico State 18 (ESPN Recap)
Ball knowers are going to love this photo:

The closest major city to Las Cruces, NM is El Paso, Texas. Therefore, stadium #92 not only marked the 2/3rds point of the journey (46 to go), but was also a great excuse to take the full fam over there, stay at The Stanton House, and visit Ronnie, Sebastian, and Forest.
Friday we explored La Nube children’s museum, some pretty excellent arcades, and the best chicken coop in all of El Paso (they offer egg subscription plans ranging from $48-$55/mo with varying degrees of fulfillment but high quality and organic eggs).
Saturday, we caravanned 45 mins to the in-state battle where the boys from Albuquerque came south to play the Aggies. There are some interesting attractions and stores along that ride from El Paso to Las Cruces, as well as a petting zoo and animal feed location which is very kid-friendly. Reach out to Sebastian if interested in any of the stores or the water park as he visits them regularly.
Miguel was gracious enough to connect our group with John, a long-time Aggie booster who pulled together a special experience. We had South End Zone patio passes which came with a taco bar, snacks, open bar, and access to the beautiful endzone hill. The uprights on that hill did not have a kicking net, so all XP and FGs came right into the mix. Wouldn’t you know that I figured that out way before any of the kids in our section did and was able to catch and film myself catching the first XP of the game.
I was heavy UNM -11.0 and before the game predicted a 34-10 final score. However, late Q1 with the Lobos leading 14-0 and NM St having missed a chip shot FG, I was asked if I still thought it would be 34-10. I revised my prediction to 42-17, which ended up being decent because the final landed 42-18…
Joe Fields is the new athletic director and I never met him, but I did walk through his office about 14 times. The only connection between the patio and the bathrooms or the upstairs club level was through a sliding door into the AD’s office. He probably had about 2,000 crossings of his office by the staff and fans on the patio and hill. Insane design and if I were him I would switch with the Associate AD’s office who doesn’t have a door.

Speaking of the Associate AD, John intro’d us to Chet who gave us a field tour mid game and let me wear the old mascot head piece. I was also invited to sit in a chair with the Defensive Linemen for NM St during a timeout, but that didn’t seem like good risk/reward. After that, we found that dawg Pavia for photos, pleasantries, and fireball. He was SEC Offensive POTY last season and Runner-Up Heisman, but is from Albuquerque and started his FBS career at NM St. He rocked the Vandy cap and a black tank to the game because he is Diego Pavia.

The stadium is tucked away in a pretty remote, yet beautiful part of the country.

UNM continued to roll to a 32 point lead (which is more than 11.0) in early Q4, so we left early to grab world famous margaritas at Double Eagle in Mesilla, NM.
'
Ronnie and Sebastian capped off the weekend by bringing us to an amazing Italian restaurant in NM called Andovino’s Desert Crossing.
We are working on having Texas Tech, U of Arizona, and UNM relocate their FBS stadiums to be a bit closer than 250-320 miles from El Paso so that we can do this at least three more times and not miss Mexican lunch or Paella night.
