Utah 43 - Arkansas 10 (ESPN Recap)

If we weren’t sure whether the lads went a little bit too hard on the flight to Salt Lake, it became pretty apparent during the 2H of the Utah game when the two Oklahoma boys on the trip took some cat naps.

I knew going into the weekend that Rice Eccles at night for an SEC opponent was going to be the best in-stadium environment of the weekend, and I wasn’t wrong. What was surprising was how strong the student section was at Utah and how fun the Greek life row of frat pregame parties seemed to be, which was most of the tailgating scene we could find. All of us, except Johnny for 3 minutes, were clearly too old to even try to enter those parties, but we took note in case we every come across friends of ours considering sending their kids to school there.

It was also a trip to see one of my favorite players in the country in Devon Dampier. Consummate dual-threat college QB who is capable of running a complex offense and who reminds me a lot of Teddy Bridgewater. Utah has a QB2/WR that they flexed into many different looks with the offense. Every misdirection, motion, or double-pass worked like a charm against the undisciplined Arkansas defense. It

was really fun to watch. The Utah coach left in the game too long as he was still running the ball up 33 with 10 mins left, but other than that, Utah looked like they knew what they were doing. Running Dampier in that spot is a bit crazy given the ankle and health issues he had last season.

Went into this game with mostly a standard Utah -12.5 ticket splashed with a little Utah ML and small Under 55.0. Arkansas looked pretty good during their opening, scripted series…and that was the last time they looked good. It was a throttling by the home team Utes and one that was quite enjoyable for 98% of the fans.

Utah climbed into Top 10 of the 91 stadiums: electric atmosphere, great student section, and the #1 in-stadium food by a mile, though no alcohol sales in stadium because…Utah. Tailgating was weak unless you were a college aged person.

I did have to sweat some garbage time bullshit where Arkansas scored a TD with 6:30 left to make the score 43-10. Utah ran clock until 2:30 left, before turning over on downs at their own 40. I had no issues with Arkansas running real plays with their backups in this scenario, but I did take issue with them using their final timeouts after a run play and taking a sack. The under got there and the weekly email finished 6-0 on pregame stuff and struggled with 2H bets (Jax State coach thinks his QB is Devon Dampier and he is not).

There were two amazing timeout contest for fans. One was trying to catch a simulated punt while wearing a helmet, which I assume Sarah has never tried before since she blew it.

The other was the classic 25-yd FG attempt. Great sound effects from fans during this contests.

The guys behind us were pretty funny throughout the game and crashed a group photo with us. Two #PublicKillers at the game which were the only two of the weekend.

Arkansas is bad, but Utah is sneaky good and is in the running for the Big XII title with Texas Tech and Oklahoma St. They were by far the best of the six teams we saw play this weekend. The receiver #6 on Arkansas, Chris Marshall, made a really impressive vertical jumping catch late 1H that made me think that he should be on a better team next year if he has any eligibility left.
