Miami 10 – Texas A&M 3 (ESPN Recap)

Making a return trip to CSTX to do it right with the business school friends Stephen, Evan, and Erik. Texas A&M Aggies hosting a first round CFP true home game against the Miami Hurricanes. Miami 10-2 with turnover-laden losses to SMU and Louisville and an early win against Notre Dame. Texas A&M starting 11-0 but coming off a road loss to their rivals in Austin.

Thursday arrivals to Houston airports and 2-hour Uber rides to the Airbnb in Bryan (which is less than the 5.5 hours it would take to drive from Stillwater to College Station). Thursday night dinner at Lupe Tortilla followed by all together at The Backyard and Hydra.

Friday we walked some of the expansive, but bland campus while throwing dice in tunnels. CC roulette at each meal and lots of card games where it felt like the 6 of Clubs was pissing on me all weekend. Back to North Fork for Friday night to hang with GameDay staff, eat Dixie Chicken, watch the Oklahoma/Alabama game, and go undefeated on cornhole boards at The Backyard. Shut it down early to be energized for 11am local kickoff Saturday.

We were unable to hit the button at 1/1000th of a second precision to win a hat. There were winning side bets though

Quick Miami tailgate with South Florida superfan Canes friends Tim & Steph plus waving to Kirk, Des, Pat, etc,.

Then into a rocking 104,122 packed stadium. I place the noise level in Kyle Field in the Top 5 I have been to…which made it worth the repeat.

The game was ugly. Windy conditions led to inaccurate deep balls and lots of missed field goals. No one scored in the first 5 minutes of the game…or the first 30 minutes of the game, leading to the rare 0-0 halftime score. Miami got the ball back on their own 11-yard line with less than 5 minutes left in Q4 in a 3-3 game and led a long drive ending in a Toney TD end-around run (where he should have gone out of bounds or down in bounds after the first down). A&M got the ball back with one timeout and 1:10 left, drove the field to inside the 5 yard-line, and then on 3rd down threw this game sealing interception.

Rueben Bain Jr and Mesidor dominated the defensive line edges all game, making Marcell Reed uncomfortable and taking the Aggies out of any offensive flow. Shout out to Mike N on the food recs.

We walked back to North Fork for a third straight day, held serve on corn hole, watched the Ole Miss and Oregon games, and then crashed early because we are old and now 75% dads. After finding our Airbnb keys, travel day Sunday with Royce who found the next Amazon and loves free Whataburger. Solid weekend! Off to a bowl game in Boca where the admission is any can of Bush’s beans. Can’t wait!

Still have the Boca Bowl, Orange Bowl, and Natty to attend this year. Will end up having attended 15 games and a 10-spot on the stadium chasing tally. Pretty solid. 51 to go!

Kyle Field November 1, 2014 Texas A&M 21 – Louisiana Monroe 16 (ESPN Recap)

Shot up to Houston for a day game before a Rockets game back in Houston Saturday night. Lucky to catch Mike N for the game and see the house he and his 9 brothers and sister grew up in. I did not get the midnight yell experience the night before, and getting a non Big-12 and non-SEC opponent wasn’t the same experience as people rave about at Kyle Field. It was still a great day for a college football game, that was much closer than the 32.5 point spread indicated. Luckily, I bet the U61 and was good throughout.

This was a pretty painful game to watch. Kyle Allen never hit a groove and the fans were moaning and anxious about the game. Lots of “we always play up and play down to the level of our opponents!”

243 total yards of offense is certainly playing down to UL Monroe…

Loved the space and beauty of the campus. Definitely a male-dominated atmosphere from the split in the student body, to the cheerleaders being replaced by all male “yell leaders.” The band was talented though.

Long way from the glory days of Johnny Football being must-see football.

The swaying was cool. Might make you dizzy to watch the video though.
